We both got home on April the 10th. Rushed to get our taxes done and then we planned to attend the TC Rally in GSMNP for the weekend of my birthday in April. The 22nd of April.
On this particular trip we decided to pull the jeep this time all the way from home to campsite. Tammy has had some reluctance pulling the jeep (rightfully so it's her jeep!) The clunking I spoke of earlier was taken care of by inserting some tubing into the holes for the pin connections on the bumper.
After the taxes, we went to retrieve the camper from the storage yard, there are a lot of sad looking campers and RV's out there waiting for their owners to come around and pick them up. We put the camper on the truck and brought her back to the house - cleaned up the winter that still left on her and outfitted her for the week trip. During the week we found out that some family medical problems was going to force us to revamp our trip.
Again for the second time in less than 2 months we have had to revise our trip plans. But at least we are going!
OK so now on the DRY CAMPING - this is how we got there. We left on a Sunday and drove to the Smokey Bear Campground in Gatlinburg (?) TN. Upon our arrival the camp sites in the campground was shoulder to shoulder - most of camping in the past few trips had been in campgrounds like this - so this was really wrecking our camping mantra. The next morning Tammy suggested we take a ride out to Elkmont.
We had been there the previous December and thought that camping at Elkmont would be something we would want to do sometime - so no time like the present - so we decided after finding a premo campsite along the river that we would pull up stakes. And we did.
Beautiful Campsite and plenty of room to relax and not worry about the neighbors! |
So in retrospect - I think that Tammy and I have found our new camping style. Dry Camping. Everything now with respect to outfitting the camper is done with Dry Camping in mind.
So what did we do in GSMNP? Fly fished - alot! Here are pictures to enjoy as well.
A clean campsite brings no bears....I hope |
My Love working the river - we had some strikes but no fish. |
For those of us who cannot pronounce this stuff - quonia? I dunno? |
A picture from our previous trip n December! |
