The Big Horn Mountain Range, Cody - Wyoming and Buffalo Bill State Park.

Well it has been two full days since we made a blog entry.  Sunday morning at the KOA in Hot Springs greeted us with cooler temps and the desire to get moving once again.  Our next scheduled stop was the Buffalo State Park in Cody Wyoming.  The route took us on US Route 14 through the Bighorn Mountain Range.    How many times can we say "wow".  Countless times and Sunday was no exception.  Of course Tam said she would do all the looking for us both as I managed all the switchbacks, sharp curves and long climbs.  I was able to sneak some quick looks.  We topped out at Burgess Junction at 9430 feet above sea level.  We left temps in the mid 90's in Sheridan and found the much cooler air of 66 degrees at Burgess Junction.

Another web supplied pic - rolling down the western face of the Bighorns into Greybull.

We started our descent down to Greybull and stopped at Shell Falls Overlook and was again filled with awe as we stood there and saw the ruggedness of beauty that God himself can only create.  To our surprise - hummingbirds - everywhere - they flitted about, guarding their precious supply of nectar at the feeders and two of them followed us all the way back to truck as we got ready to leave.  What a neat send off!

We rolled down the hill and this time only the brakes labored.  But with the truck built for this type of hauling/towing we did just fine and I really appreciated the Exhaust Braking on the truck.

It took us longer than we wanted as the route we took was decided for us by the fact that there was a fire being fought on the first choice but all in all this route we took was very pleasing and not that hard.

We rolled into Greybull, a pleasant little western town we stayed in several times before.  It seems to be thriving very well, a lot of new stuff we hadn't seen on our other trips.

We finished the day late and finally got parked at the Buffalo Bill State Park - a great little one nighter.  The SP overlooks the Buffalo Bill Reservoir.  The Shoshone river feeds the lake and runs through a magnificent canyon.  Well worth the trip.

We continue to fine tune the truck camper with storage ideas and ways to make it easy to maneuver in such limited space.

After our long drive of the day, slept in some, all the way to 0700!  The morning was wonderfully cool and we had some leisure time to relax.  After coffee and tea we got ready and went into Cody.  A very neat little town and we walked about the streets window shopping and helping the local economy.  A late breakfast at "Grannys" and we kept going until about 1645 in the afternoon.  Supper at the Proud Cut Saloon.  We finished our day with a trip to Walmart to pick up and resupply some needed items.  We may cuss'em but Walmart is always there when you need them.

Tuesday - Threeforks MT!

Pictures to follow (as soon as the scenery gets boring...right!)  We'll load those up and get caught up tomorrow night!

Peace to you all~
